CliffScout Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 16, 2026
CliffScout ("CliffScout", "we", "our", "the app"), operated by GatorQuests, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the controls you have. It is specific to how CliffScout actually works — please read it alongside our Terms of Service.
CliffScout is a community map of cliff jumping and water spots. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous. See Section 9 and our Terms of Service for the safety and liability terms that govern your use of the app.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
- Anonymous account ID. The first time you open CliffScout, we automatically create an anonymous account identified by a random unique ID (a UUID). You can browse, submit content, and earn points without ever giving us your name, email, or phone number.
- Optional sign-in identity. You may optionally link your account to Sign in with Apple or to an email address (we send a one-time sign-in code; we do not store a password). Linking is only used to back up and recover your account if you change devices. If you sign in with Apple using Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, we only ever receive the relay address Apple provides.
Information you provide
- Optional profile information. A display name, public handle, bio, profile photo (avatar), and social media handles (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) — only if you choose to add them.
- User-submitted content. Spots you submit; reports you file (jump height, water depth, conditions, hazards, access notes); photos you upload (including visit-proof photos); comments you post; media links you share (e.g., TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit); spots you mark as visited or favorite; and location corrections.
- Content moderation data. If you report another user's content or block another user, we store that report or block so we can act on it and so blocked users stay hidden from you.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location (only when you grant it). Used to show cliff jumping spots near you and to center the map. We request location only while you are using the app ("when in use"). We do not track your location in the background. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
- Usage analytics (PostHog). Basic, app-focused analytics about how the app is used — for example, which screens are viewed and which features are used — tied to your anonymous account ID. We use this to understand and improve the app, not to profile you across other apps or websites.
- Crash and error diagnostics (Sentry). If the app crashes or hits an error, we send diagnostic reports (device model, OS version, app version, and a technical stack trace) to help us fix bugs.
- Device/app information. App version, device model, operating system version, and language.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not require or collect your real name, email, or phone number unless you choose to provide them.
- We do not track your precise location in the background.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers or run ads.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Create and maintain your account and keep you signed in across launches.
- Show you cliff jumping spots near you (when location is granted).
- Let you submit, view, and interact with community-contributed spots, reports, photos, comments, and links.
- Operate the contribution and points/leaderboard features.
- Operate content moderation: reviewing reported content, hiding blocked users' content from you, and removing or banning accounts that violate our Terms or Community Guidelines.
- Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve performance and the overall experience.
- Communicate with you about a submission or a moderation matter where needed.
3. How We Share Information
With other users (the core function of the app). Content you submit for public display — approved spots, approved reports and photos, comments, public profile information, and media links — is shown to other users. Pending submissions are reviewed before they appear publicly. Visit-proof photos are not shown publicly on spots.
With service providers (processors acting on our behalf). We use a small number of providers to run CliffScout. They process data only to provide their service to us and are bound by their own privacy and security terms:

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of CliffScout, our users, or the public.
4. Your Choices and Rights
CliffScout gives you self-service control directly in the app:
- Delete your account and data — in app. Go to Settings → Delete my account and confirm by typing DELETE. This permanently removes your profile, badges, favorites, blocks, and any pending submissions. Approved spots and reports that are part of the public map remain available but are de-attributed from you (your name is removed). The next time you open the app you start fresh as a new anonymous user.
- Export your data — in app. Go to Settings → Download my data for a JSON export of your profile, contributions, reports, and favorites.
- Revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
- Manage blocked users at Settings → Blocked users.
- Questions or other requests (including analytics opt-out): contact us at cliffscout@fullsnackdevs.io.
5. Data Retention
We keep your account and content while your account exists. When you delete your account, account-identifying data and your pending/unpublished content are deleted; content that has been approved into the public map is retained in de-attributed form so the community map stays intact. Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
6. Security
We rely on industry-standard providers (above) and access controls to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. International Users
CliffScout is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on infrastructure that may be located in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. By using the app you consent to this processing.
8. Children's Privacy
CliffScout is not directed to children. The app concerns an inherently dangerous activity and is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact cliffscout@fullsnackdevs.io and we will delete it.
9. Safety Disclaimer
CliffScout provides community-contributed information about cliff jumping and water locations for reference only. Cliff jumping is inherently and seriously dangerous and can result in injury or death. Spot data — including heights, water depths, hazards, and conditions — is submitted by users, is often unverified, and can be inaccurate or out of date. We do not verify the accuracy or current safety of any spot. You are solely responsible for evaluating each spot, current conditions, legal access, and your own safety. Your use of CliffScout is governed by the assumption-of-risk and liability terms in our Terms of Service.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice.
